The 5 most lavish, Over-the-Top Celebrity Weddings

1-Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas Wedding

2018 was filled with more than 80 celebrity weddings. Some couples had star-studded guest lists, and others brought their pets along to take part in the occasion.

Couples like model Emily Ratajkowski and Sebastian Bear-McClard and “Younger” star Nico Tortorella and Bethany Meyers opted for low-key weddings at courthouses. But others went all out and had their weddings on islands, in European castles, and at palaces.

From Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra to Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk, here are the most lavish celebrity weddings.

2-Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Wedding

Markle’s long-sleeve white dress, designed by Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy, had tons of personal details, like a five-meter-long silk tulle veil featuring unique embroidered flowers representing all of the Commonwealth countries.

“Ms. Markle wanted to express her gratitude for the opportunity to support the work of the Commonwealth by incorporating references to its members into the design of her wedding dress,” the palace stated.

The bride also wore Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, which was lent to her by Queen Elizabeth.

Prince Harry wore a full Blues and Royals military uniform rather than a tux or suit, reportedly to pay tribute to his past military service and out of respect to his regimen.

Even the small flower bouquet has a special meaning. The flowers were taken from Kensington Palace’s private garden and included Forget-Me-Nots, which were Princess Diana’s favorite flower.

There were also locally-sourced white peonies, white garden roses, and additional floral arrangements designed by Philippa Craddock, which lined the exterior of St. George’s chapel.

Plenty of celebrities made their way to the ceremony, like Oprah Winfrey, Markle’s “Suits” co-star Patrick Adams, “Pretty Little Liars” star Troian Bellisario, Priyanka Chopra, singer James Blunt, actress Abigail Spencer, Tom Hardy, David and Victoria Beckham, and George and Amal Clooney. Elton John also performed at the lunchtime reception, which was held at St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle.

3-Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ Wedding

Their marriage may have been short-lived, but Kim Kardashian West and Kris Humphries‘ wedding will forever be remembered as one of the most lavish celebrity weddings of all time.

Seven years ago on Monday, Kardashian West, 37, and Humphries, 33, tied the knot at an Aug. 20, 2011, ceremony at a private estate.

“It was like we were in heaven,” Kardashian West previously told PEOPLE in a cover story with an exclusive wedding photo album. Added Humphries: “I’m going to remember how perfect it was.”

In remembrance of their over-the-top wedding, estimated at $6 million, here’s a look back at all of the glamorous details.

Wedding Invitation

Following weeks of buzz about when they would say “I do,” PEOPLE got a sneak peek at the wedding invitation, confirming the big date.

Kardashian West and the NBA player scheduled to tie the knot in Montecito, California, and celebrate with (what else?) a black tie affair.

The couple’s wedding invitations were designed by Lehr & Black, who also created invites for Kim’s sister Khloé Kardashian and her ex-husband Lamar Odom, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, and Fergie and Josh Duhamel, among others.

The invite, which arrived at guests’ homes housed inside its own box, was embellished with hundreds of jet black hematite crystals.

Among the nearly 450 guests who were invited to the celebration were Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough, Demi Lovato, Serena Williams and Larsa and Scottie Pippen.

Rehearsal Dinner

The former couple celebrated their wedding rehearsal dinner with friends and family at Scarpetta, an Italian eatery inside the Montage Beverly Hills hotel.

“They both looked amazing and very happy to be celebrating their upcoming wedding,” an eyewitness told PEOPLE of the former couple. Added a hotel source: “Kim and Kris rented the whole restaurant for their special celebration.”

About 75 people were in attendance at the three-hour event, including Kardashian West’s former stepfather Caitlyn Jenner, and sisters Khloé, who tweeted “such an amazing night with my family and friends,” and Kourtney, who arrived with ex-boyfriend Scott Disick and their son Mason.

Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception followed by a lavish sit-down dinner. “Kim and Kris were hand-in-hand and side by side for most of the night,” said the witness. “Kim was beaming and looked absolutely gorgeous. During dinner, there were some heartfelt speeches and tears, but mostly laughter. Everyone seemed to have a great time.”

The bride-to-be wore a white dress, while Humphries wore a grey suit.

Tradition with Over-the-Top Glamour

According to wedding planner Sharon Sacks, the couple mixed tradition with over-the-top glamour at their ceremony.

“Kim loves black and white and so does Kris,” Sacks told PEOPLE. “They have this Hollywood royalty feeling and the black and white represented formality. But tradition was very important to them.”

The Gown

Wearing a custom-designed strapless Vera Wang ball gown, Kardashian West told PEOPLE she “felt like a princess.”

But, she added, “Glam aside, that wasn’t our main goal. It was really about our family and each other.”

Ahead of the wedding, she told Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show, “Oh my God, that dress!” and added, “It’s all about the dress.”

While Wang designed it, Kardashian West’s pal Nicole Richie also had an influence. Richie told her, “‘I had this vision for your gown, just hear me out. I think you should go super classic, really old Hollywood,’” Kardashian West said. “‘Think museum. You can’t go with something trendy.’ ”

She accessorized her gown with a veil and bejeweled headpiece.

For the big day, Humphries sported a white tux.

The Ceremony

The white and glittery event — officiated by Pastor Joel Johnson — was filmed by E! cameras, which documented the wedding on two-part special, Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event.

Although Kardashian West was walked down the aisle by her former stepdad, her late father, the late lawyer Robert Kardashian who died in 2003, was there in spirit.

Asked by Seacrest if she would carry anything on her down the aisle to remind her of him, she said at the time, “I’m having something always with me. These are the moments you wish my dad could be here. You’ll feel the presence of my dad. I’ve had my moments where I’ve cried to Bruce, and it’s been emotional. I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t.”

Kardashian West also had her sisters Kourtney, Khloé, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner by her side as bridesmaids.

What Went Wrong

After just six months of dating, Humphries popped the question on May 18, 2011, with a 20.5-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring he helped design and paid for himself. “It was everything I ever dreamt of and more,” Kardashian West had said. “I think when you know … you know.”

Three months later, they wed.

Following the couple’s honeymoon — which was cut short so Kardashian West could begin filming the latest season of Kourtney and Kim Take New York —  the two were already stepping out solo, with Kardashian West attending the MTV Video Music Awards alone.

On Oct. 31, just three weeks after E! broadcast the four-hour special Kim’s Fairytale Wedding and 72 days into her marriage, the reality star filed for divorce in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences.

“I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned,” Kardashian West said in a statement. “We remain friends and wish each other the best.”

Her then-husband didn’t seem to have quite the same script. “I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce,” he told PEOPLE in a statement. “I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.”

Kardashian West also had a message for anyone who questioned her motives for marrying Humphries — and filing for divorce months later.

“I married for love,” the reality star wrote in a blog post on her website. “I would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show!”

“I share so much of my life on a reality show, that contemplating whether to even film my wedding was a tough decision to make, and maybe it turned out to not be the smartest decision,” she wrote. “I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn’t get off when now I know I probably should have.”

“I got caught up with the hoopla,” the post continued, “and the filming of the TV show that when I probably should have ended my relationship, I didn’t know how to and didn’t want to disappoint a lot of people.”

4-NeNe Leakes and Greg Leakes Wedding

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leaks and her husband Gregg tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Atlanta, Ga. — and RadarOnline has all the details about the affair, from the the exquisite reception, to the surprise musical guest and where the couple decided to seat their star-studded friends.

NeNe, 45, donned a white Gabrielle Arango gown, while her 58-year-old beau wore a traditional suit for the nuptials, which were held at the five star InterContinental Buckhead Hotel.

The bride walked down the aisle — escorted by sons Bryson Bryant and Brentt — to the sound of Whitney Houston‘s “I Believe in You and Me”, as performed by gospel singer Kim Burrell.

n a touching moment, Brentt, NeNe’s youngest son, “started crying and he and Gregg had a moment,” a spywitness told Radar.

More than 400 guests — including NeNe’s dog Playa — watched from satin covered chairs which were decorated with white flowers.

The ceremony was officiated by Judge Greg Mathis, from the syndicated television show judge, Judge Mathis. “During the vows, NeNe refused to repeat the standard ‘for richer or poorer’ line, opting instead only for ‘richer,” our source revealed.

NeNe had nine bridesmaids, including ‘RHOA’ costars Cynthia Bailey and Marlo HamptonBasketball Wives LA star Laura Govan, Basketball Wives Miami star Jennifer Williams and her BFF Diana Gowins.

“I chose each of these ladies for different reasons but the main reason was that they have stood by me, supported me and, at times, they have been a shoulder on,” the Bravo reality star told guests in the program.

Star Jones‘ ex-husband, Al Reynolds, was one of Gregg’s nine groomsmen.

Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the reception at the hotel’s Windsor Ballroom, where each table featured extravagant chandelier centerpieces, complete with candles.

Joining the newlyweds for the occasion were NeNe’s fellow ‘RHOA’ cast members Phaedra ParksPorsha WilliamsKandi Burruss, Mama Joyce, Lisa Wu Hartwell as well as a pregnant Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann.

“We have shared some of the most charitable memories together! I call each of these ladies my friend!”

At one point during the reception, Gregg presented NeNe with a crystal portrait of herself, telling the audience “we started from the bottom now we here” as the DJ payed Drake’s hit song with those same lyrics, a source said.

Music during the wedding was provided by a host of performers, including the Good Times Brass Band, Gasner Allen and The Atlanta ‘Seeit’ Choir.

But the pièce de résistance was a surprise performance by American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino, who wowed the crowd with three songs for the on-again couple.

“We are sincerely thankful for your presence here today to share this special occasion with us,” NeNe and Gregg wrote in the program.

“Our lives are truly richer because of your friendship, support, prayer, encouragement and unconditional love. We are overjoyed to continue in this journey together. Each of you holds a special place in our hearts and we are truly blesses that you are here to celebrate with us.”

NeNe and Gregg divorced in 2011 after 13 years of marriage, but reconciled last year.

5-Elizabeth Taylor And Conrad Hilton’s Wedding, 1950

A lavish ceremony and a tremendous wedding dress ushered in a troubled union for 18-year-old Elizabeth Taylor in 1950. Echoing Marilyn Monroe’s short-lived marriage to DiMaggio, Elizabeth Taylor’s first marriage to Nicky Hilton also ended in divorce just nine months later.

The actress hired Grace Kelly’s wedding dress designer for her big day, opting for a lace and ivory satin combo with pearl embroidery.

Whilst we can celebrate the starlet’s divine dress, it is a little difficult to treasure this photo. When the pair split, Taylor told the court that Hilton had subjected her to “extreme mental cruelty.” Luckily for Taylor, it didn’t put her off. Asked why she married so often, Taylor once replied: “I don’t know, honey. It sure beats the hell out of me.” And that’s why she’s the best.
